The dates for this year’s Bike Film Festival have been set! If last year’s anything to go by, we’re set to see another great weekend of festivities. This year is the festivals 10th year anniversary. Previous programs included a bunch of polo related flicks, my personal favourite being a short film of bike polo VS horse polo.

Check out the official Sydney Bike Film Festival page as well as the dedicated page on the Sydney City website. More details will be added to these shortly.
Dates: 17th to the 21st November

Good news everyone! Virginia has managed to lock in a perpetual court hire on Thursday nights at the Alexandria Park court. This means that every week the courts are booked and LIGHTS WILL BE ON!

Its a big step for SBP and for our good relationship with the council. Since moving away from the Technology Park courts we have struggled to get consistency in playing times and now that the National Championships are approaching, it will means some regular practice.
This also means that for anyone wanting to come down to check it out, we will always be there!

The Australasian Hardcourt Bike Polo Championchips flyer has been released along with some more info on the event. Entries are about to open shortly and EVERYONE is welcome to sign up. If you havent already, you might want to think about flights and accomodation, becuase unfortunately it falls in the time of school holidays. A few of the other Sydney players are heading up on the Friday afternoon to hopefully get some pre tourney practice time at the pub. Altough registrations are for teams of three, you can still register as a single player and be partnered up on the day. Good times!
Details are below and here is a link to the thread on fixed.org as well as the page on the national bike polo website.
Location: BRISBANE !
Date: 18th & 19th of September

Ive got an update for the World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championchips! Results thus far have been posted on the tournament blog here. Some intense polo has reduced the teams from 64 down to 32. As expected, the top seeded teams are the american and europeans. Unfortunately, the Australian delegation haven’t made the finals but im sure they played with gusto and spirit. Hopefully we will get further word from them to find out how it all went down and especially some news on how the rest of the world play! The aussie teams positions after the first stage are below:
45 – Top Centre – Melbourne
51 – Mortal Wombatz – Sydney
53 – Adelaide City Mallet – Adelaide
64 – Polocalypse Now – Australia
The trophy for the WHBPC has been announced. Its been created by Marco from Roma. Images below, and the link to the original post is here.

More news on how the tournament is going for us shortly.
This weekend is the last before Locky, Steve and Virginia head off to Berlin for the World Champs, so to wish them all the best and give them a few games of practice before their trip come down to Alexandria Park court this Sunday from 12 to 4 for polo.
We will be also doing a BYO BBQ between 4 and 6 before some night polo.
New players are always welcome, so if you’re interested in seeing the game in action and trying it out, swing by. Mallets will be available for use.

The world championships are fast approaching and we are lucky enough to have a number of teams from Australia heading over to Berlin. There are a number of players from Sydney that are now registered. Lewis, Locky and Steve have joined forces and Virginia is joining forces with two Melbournites for another team.
This sundays session at alexandria park should be a great day to send of the players in high spirits. Theres also talk of some food and drinks after.
The World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships – Berlin 2010 is held from Friday, August 13 to Sunday, August 15. There are spare courts available for pick-up games that look to be just as exciting and interesting. More info on the tournament can be found here.
Ill aim to keep everyone updated on how are boys and girls do over there. Watch this space.

Hopefully you get this in time, but tomorrow (Thursday 05/08/10) on ABC radio, 702, James Valentine will be interviewing our very own Steve about Sydney Bike Polo. As you might know, Steve is heading over to Berlin next week for the world championships.
The interview will be within “Afternoon’s with James Valentine“, which is from 1pm to 3pm on AM 702. Steve will be in the “Forgotten Sport Report” segment which i think might be around 1:30pm. I will be on the lookout for a podcast or recording which I will hopefully be able to post up.
Good luck Steve!
This is taken from the nice chaps over in Christchurch, New Zealand. Unfortunately, it falls on the weekend when some of the Sydney players are over in Berlin for the World Championships. Sounds like a good weekend nevertheless, and seems to have some great spoils spoils to the victors. Gold Mallets anyone?
Saturday 14th August 2010, 10am start. Visit the Christchurch polo site for more info

I’ve also added Christchurch to the list of local polo groups on this site (to the right of screen). Their blog is interesting and the more tournaments shared the better the polo!
