This week we are continuing with a mid-week session on Tuesday the 27th July down at alexandria park bball court. Same as last week, 730 start until 930 or 10. Check the ‘PLAY’ page for details of the court. Thank for setting up lights Virginia!

As always, plenty of mallets and bikes to go around.

If youre new and wish to come down to check it out, your more than welcome! If you send an email or comment with your mobile number ill be happy to message you before the next session to make sure that we will be there!

In other news, we have been discussing some possible updates to the site for notifying everyone on the next session. This is in regards to weather as its been a little tricky with the amount of rain recently.

For now, I will include a box to the side which I will try to keep most updated as well as any contact details to double check by sms. So before you leave for polo, check the website to see!!!

Hopefully in the future, this will be an automatic notification through email or sms, but for now this will have to do.

Mid-Week Session Tonight!

Polo is on tonight under lights at the Alexandria Park basketball court from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

$5 per player for lights. Free for newbies!

Hope to see you there.

Court Shuffle

For the moment it seems as though we are relocating our night sessions to Alexandria Park.

As some of you might have heard, we have hit a slight hurdle at our night court at Australian Technology Park. The sum of it is that the Property Manager is refusing to allow us to get the lights switched on and has asked us to play elsewhere. As a paying customer and also a sporting team, we don’t see the difference between this and basketball.

As such, we will work on coming to an agreement for use of the court, so for the moment are going to move over to the Alexandria Park court (same court as Sundays).

More to follow… For now, see you at Alexandria Park.

Eighth-Inch Polo Mallet Head

Mallet End Caps

It seemed it was only a matter of time before bike polo became mainstream enough for gear to be made with them in mind. Although it seems hard for the home-made culture to be over-run, the Milwaukee-based Eighth-Inch (who have already cornered a polo market for their frame) have produced a mallet head.

Using the same HDPE as the sought after gas pipes, these seem to be pretty well designed. The main advantage I see here is the integration of end caps (replacements available) that can work with a variation of head lengths. They come in 150mm lengths and can be cut down to 140 or 130 while still being able to mount the end caps on one or both sides. They also seem to have a mid support sleeve for the shaft for additional strength.

I guess the potential flaws I can see at this stage is the set mallet head diameter, the shaft diameter set at 19mm, and the re-drilling fo end caps when shortened down to 140 or 130mm. Oh, and to get to australia it’ll probably end up around the $30 or $40 mark.

Mallet End Caps

Mallet End Caps

  • HDPE Plastic
  • Built in 19mm sleeve for added strength
  • 1 bolt attachment to any 19mm shaft
  • 150mm with cut lines for 130 and 140mm
  • Includes 2 replaceable end caps
  • Includes required screws

Check out the Eighth-inch site for more info.

Peace,
brook.

THROW UP! Brisbane Tournament

Brisbane Bike Polo

The prequal the Australasian Polo Championships in Brisbane is here!

Where: West End, Brisbane, Queensland!

When: May 29th & 30th 2010.

Rules: TBC. In short, the tournament runs very differently to normal. All mallets are lined up. 6 are picked out and thrown up! Every plays the same amount of games and tally’s are kept of wins/losses/for/against for each game. Everyone is then ranked. Top 12 are then thrown up and play semi’s. Semi’s determine finals. Pretty much your individual talent is on the line.

Prizes will be handed out for winners/losers and most valuable player on court/scorecards. Beers will be drank, stories will be told and good times will be had. Please let us know if your interested or not. You don’t need to be in teams to come. Just you and your mallet is required and we’ll do the rest. We can arrange beds for interstaters!

ACMC Polo Event

ACMC 2010 logo

The Australian Cycle Messenger Championships (ACMC 2010) are kicking off this Easter weekend with a throw-in tournament organised on Friday at 11am. Polo, footdown slow race, kwik lock and other events throughout the day. Come down for the festivities and drinks!

I’ve also heard that this Thursdays polo (1/4/10) might be a little special too. The ACMC is open to all and is carried on with many other events over the loooong weekend. The main race being Saturday night. Lewis has posted up some more info on these over on Le Pista Resistance.

The dates have finally been released for this years championships held in Brisbane. They will be held on the 18th & 19th of September 2010.

These dates also fall within school holidays so if you can book flights early, it might be a good idea. Some of us might also have a think about car-pooling? If you decide to organise flights, they are expecting games to hit-off around 9am on Saturday and run up until 5pm on the Sunday.

Keep an eye out for further updates, posters and info coming soon.

If anyone missed Fridays airing of the bike polo segment on Totally Wild, Rob from Melbourne was nice enough to post it up on the net (thanks Rob!). Keep an eye out for some of the Sydney players, Ive counted 6 so far. And well done Virginia for making the final cut!

Totally Wild EXTREME Episode

As most of us regularly watch Totally Wild on channel 10 it comes as no surprise that this weeks upcoming episode features a segment on The National Champs down in Melbourne last November. A few Sydney teams represented with Bush League Bushrangers (Lewis, Mitch and Maija) coming in 3rd.

Totally Wild

A few of the Sydney players were interviewed so heres hoping we make the final edit. Its on air this Friday at 8am, fingers crossed that I can post up a vid of it for anyone that will miss it.
