As spring and the splendid daylight savings is now upon us, there are a few upcoming events on the Sydney Bike Polo Calendar on top of our usual Sunday games.

Saturday 8th October Sydney Bike Film Fest Street Fair
Starting from 11am, MC Cyclery have installed a games arena on Forbes st, Taylor Square in which we will be holding a few bike polo games throughout the day. Some fast paced 2v2 games will be on show. There are plenty of other stalls and attractions to checkout to make a day of it!

Wednesday 12th October USYD Rollin’ Into Uni
On Ride to Work Day, the University of Sydney is holding an event to welcome its students by having food and refreshments, bike stalls, info and repair help as well as some relaxed beginners bike polo. It’ll be a great way to give it a go with other first-timers.

Wednesday 12th October University of Macquarie Ride to Uni Day
Also on Ride to Work Day, Macquaire University has organized a bike friendly event of stalls, bike assistance and a large soft arena perfect for bike polo! It’ll also be another great place to give it a go with other first-timers.

Thursday 27th October TV Filming!
As part of our usual Thursday session, a National TV show will be coming down for some interviews and games to include Bike Polo in a segment of theirs. It’ll be a large turnout and expect some intense and entertaining polo as the players try and out-do each other for some air-time. We encourage any spectators or bike riders to come down and check it out to work up the crowd.

Brisbane Polo on ABC News

ABC News has just posted a great article, photos and audio on the Brisbane Bike Polo scene and the sport in general. Click the link to check it out and listen to the guys talk about the sport they love.

Written by Amy Simmons, I’d have to say that Olli Wykeham had the best quote “It’s something where you can just come along, you don’t have to do anything special you can just grab a mallet and play.”… or perhaps Jamie with “It’s like legal crack – it’s that addictive.”

Nice work guys!

WHBPC11 Final Day Upsets

More videos of the World Champs! The first two days are to rank the 60 teams, and the third and final day is a double elimination format of the top 32 teams. The top ranked team plays the bottom ranked, the second ranked plays the second bottom etc.

The two videos below are of the first two games of the elimations where the lower ranked team upset the top teams, setting up an amazing day of beautiful polo. Also worth noting that Beaver Boys were current World Champs in pursuit of making it a double. Keep in mind that this is a VERY early start on a third day of play, which might explain why some of the players still look half asleep. Thanks again to Mr. Do who once again has provided quality filming.

We’re Back! And with a WHBPC Highlights Package!

HELLO EVERYONE! Sorry the page has been down for the last few weeks. Why did I hear you ask? That’s because a few of the Sydney players have been competing at a little tournament called THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS! While we put the bikes back together and unpack, we will be back to regular times from this weekend! And expect a lot more content updates over the next 2 weeks as photos and more footage slowly comes rolling out.

For now, what better way to kick it off that a highlights package put together by Ken from East Van, who also happens to be the man behind the Rawbie Boardz show!

Footage from Winter Whack ii

During last months Winter Whack ii Tournament in Christchurch, a TV crew from The Erin Simpson Show (a local show in NZ) came down to check out bike polo. There is some good footage and a nice interview with Craig. It’s great to see more and more of these coming out which show bike polo in a much more realistic light, with good research and not just exploring it as a “whacky” sport as we’ve had in the past.
